Mocean

the name up top came from this

What it is

A frame-by-frame animation app in the browser, with onion skinning, layers, pressure brushes, and GIF or video rotoscoping. It exports straight to the web. Named for motion and the ocean: I built it to animate over a sea otter.

Built with

JavaScript, Canvas API, Pointer Events

Coming soon

Pod

300+ users

What it is

Group planning with live location sharing, RSVPs, and schedules. The map clusters friends as you zoom and predicts where they are between GPS updates. Built solo, live on the App Store.

Built with

React Native, TypeScript, Expo, Firebase Cloud Functions

Mycelium

1,800+ weekly npm downloads

What it is

An open source MCP server that gives AI coding agents a persistent, searchable memory of any repo, cutting the files an agent reads per task about 10x. It also draws the codebase as a dependency graph people can read.

Built with

TypeScript, MCP, Tree-sitter, Claude API, D3.js

Resistance predictor

runs on UF's supercomputer

What it is

Predicts whether a bacterial genome is resistant, intermediate, or susceptible to an antibiotic. Trained on k-mer features from 29,000+ genomes, with a separate classifier for each of 13 antibiotics.

Built with

Python, scikit-learn, SLURM, HiPerGator

Research at UF's Epi-Logic Lab

Kyoto pipeline

8 hours a week down to 10 minutes

What it is

The application, routing, and email automation behind UF's Kyoto study abroad exchange: 500+ submissions pulled in automatically, a live dashboard for advisors, and approval PDFs generated on their own.

Built with

Python, JavaScript, Google Apps Script, SQL, Qualtrics and Gmail APIs

About me

I'm Minh, a computer science student at the University of Florida, graduating December 2027.

Most of my projects start the same way: I notice something that should exist, then I build it and ship it. That's how Pod, Mycelium, and Mocean happened.

Away from the keyboard, I'm an ocean person. I keep reef and shrimp tanks, watch a lot of wildlife documentaries, and care about conservation. My favorite work is where tech and the natural world meet.

Experience

  1. August 2026 to now

    Machine learning research intern

    ME2 Lab, UF Materials Science

Applying ML to electron microscopy. I'm replacing the lab's Gaussian fitting and thresholding with CNN and transformer object detection, so electron diffraction patterns can be read in real time, and training vision models that classify materials by their crystal structure. Before joining, I built an interactive 3D electron diffraction simulator that the lab's structure generation work now builds on.

  2. Oct 2025 to now

    Machine learning research assistant

    Epi-Logic Lab, University of Florida

Built the pipeline behind our antibiotic resistance work: 29,000+ genomes processed with SLURM jobs on UF's HiPerGator cluster, 13 per-antibiotic classifiers, and a data leakage bug I caught that had been overstating accuracy, fixed before publication.

  3. Dec 2025 to now

    Founder and solo developer

    Pod

Designed, built, and launched a real-time group planning app for iOS, from live GPS sharing and push notifications to four rounds of App Store review and over-the-air production updates.

  4. Aug 2025 to now

    Teaching assistant, Senior Capstone Design

    UF Computer Engineering

Mentoring four hardware and software teams at a time with design reviews, debugging help, and weekly presentation coaching. Teams have built an ASL-teaching robotic hand, now partnered with Notre Dame researchers, and a stacked microgreen grower. One team published a research paper.

  5. July 2026 to now

    Founding officer and External VP

Embodied Intelligence Group, UF's robotics club

Running outreach with companies for funding and mentorship, which landed two hardware sponsors who donated servos and Arduino Nanos. I also lead workshops and work on the ML team training robotic arms to do tasks.

  6. Mar 2025 to now

    Software engineering intern

UF Computer and Information Science and Engineering

Built the survey, routing, and email automation behind the UF and Kyoto study abroad exchange, cutting weekly data processing from 8 hours to 10 minutes across 500+ student submissions.

Say hi

I'm looking for Summer 2027 software engineering and AI/ML internships.
